Hi! We’re Andrew and Emily, the husband and wife duo behind the Piper in the Burg blog.
Andrew is the musical talent around here while Emily provides the creative insights, authoring and editing the blog’s content.
With over 19 years of bagpiping experience, Andrew has been a member of many competitive pipe bands in Ontario and a guest piper with bands from the United States and Scotland.
As a founding member of the Paris Pipe Band (now the Paris Port Dover Pipe Band), Andrew led the band to become the 2005 North American Champions and the Ontario Champion Supreme Pipe Band in Grade 5 in only their second year of competition. In 2013, he returned to the band, playing as a member of the Ontario Champion Supreme Pipe Band in Grade 3.
As a successful solo piper, Andrew competed under the tutelage of Jake Watson and John Cairns, both leaders of top Ontario pipe bands. He left his competitive career on top, having played up through the grades ultimately reaching the prestigious Grade 1 level.
Most recently, Andrew has been focusing on the exciting world of solo performance and enjoys helping make events memorable; such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, family reunions, funerals, corporate and sporting events, fundraisers, and festivals.
A young professional working for a top Canadian university, Emily enjoys the creative outlet the blog provides. The wit and humour weaved within the posts can be attributed to the creative perspective she brings while generating most of the blog’s content.
Emily met Andrew when they were both members of the Paris Port Dover Pipe Band. She knew what she was getting into when marrying a bagpiper and is happy to be a partner in sharing Andrew’s piping adventures!
We hope you enjoy our blog!
